Trinity Health is proud to announce it has been recertified as a Primary Stroke Center by The Joint Commission, a global leader in promoting safety and quality in healthcare.
Trinity Health was accorded The Joint Commission’s Gold Seal of Approval®, a symbol of quality that reflects Trinity’s commitment to provide safe and effective care to stroke patients across the continuum of care.
Recertification was based on an onsite review of Trinity Health’s stroke program last November. During the visit, a Joint Commission reviewer evaluated all aspects of the program, including compliance with certification standards and performance measures designed to improve outcomes for stroke patients.
“Stroke is one of the leading causes of death and disability, so treating it quickly and effectively can mean the difference between having a good outcome and being permanently disabled,” said Jerilyn Alexander, RN, Stroke Program Coordinator. “Trinity Health can be proud of its team and the work it’s accomplished to create a program that delivers state-of-the-art stroke care to the community.”
As a Primary Stroke Center, Trinity Health has a system of protocols and services that include advanced neuroimaging, thrombolytic therapy and a stroke team that’s on call 24/7. Other features provide follow-up care and rehabilitation, and education to inform the public about common stroke symptoms.
The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention says every 40 seconds someone in the United States has a stroke, and every 3.5 minutes someone dies of a stroke. Recognition of stroke symptoms and the activation of the EMS system are the crucial first steps in North Dakota’s system of stroke care.
