The Trinity Health Outpatient Nutrition will hold a free informational session for people interested in participating in the lifestyle intervention program, Weigh 2 Change. This program aims to prevent the progression of diabetes through living a healthier lifestyle. Research shows that people can lower their risk for type 2 diabetes by 58% by losing 7% of their body weight and exercising moderately 30 minutes a day, five days a week.
What is Weigh 2 Change?
Weigh 2 Change is a yearlong diabetes prevention program that helps people take control of their health through nutrition, exercise, group support, and the use of trained lifestyle coaches.
To participate in Weigh 2 Change, members must meet the following criteria:
- Be at risk for, or have, prediabetes.
- Be at least 18 years of age.
- Be overweight.
- Not currently have diabetes.
- Not be pregnant.
How can I participate in the program?
Potential participants are urged to the ‘Session Zero’ meetings to learn about the program, complete a Readiness-to-Change questionnaire, and determine whether the program is right for them. The session is scheduled March 5, 4 p.m. to 5p.m. in the Trinity Health Medical Arts Skywalk Conference Room A. Session Zero will help you understand the commitment and benefits of the yearlong program so you can decide if the program is right for you.
What is the cost if I choose to participate?
People who commit to the program and are not covered by Medicare will be charged a fee of $220. The fee covers educational sessions and materials for the entire year.
