Maintaining the highest standards of patient safety is at the core of everything we do at Trinity Health. Through best practices and a persistent focus on the National Patient Safety Goals, we seek to keep the safety of our patients at the top of our minds every day by reducing errors and adopting specific care protocols that keep patients safe from harm.
Trinity’s surgical service has long utilized the practice of “time out” prior to surgical procedures as well as the Safe Surgery Checklist to ensure effective communication among all clinicians and safe practices throughout the three perioperative periods:
- Prior to administration of anesthesia
- Prior to skin incision
- Prior to the patient leaving the operating room or procedural area
