Neonatology is a subspecialty of pediatrics that consists of the medical care of newborn infants, especially ill or premature newborns. A regional referral center for newborns in need of special care, Trinity’s Newborn Intensive Care Unit (NICU) has provided thousands of premature and ill newborns the chance to grow and be healthy since it was founded in 1975.
Led by Thomas Carver, DO, a board-certified neonatologist and Director of Trinity’s NICU, a highly qualified team of specially trained nurses and other support people utilize the latest technological tools to care for premature and sick babies. Together, they:
- Diagnose and treat newborns with conditions such as breathing disorders, infections, and birth defects
- Manage care of newborns born prematurely, critically ill, or in need of surgery
- Stabilize and treat newborns with life-threatening problems
