Cancer Diagnostics

When it comes to cancer care, we believe that expertise and time are our most important assets. Our highly trained cancer specialists work with Trinity Health radiologists, cardiologists and pathologists to deliver timely, accurate cancer diagnostics so the right treatments can begin as soon as possible.

We offer a full range of diagnostic tests, including:

• Imaging tests, which allow cancer specialists to visualize certain organs and structures inside the body to look for tumors and see if and how far cancer has spread
• Nuclear imaging tests, which serve the same purpose as standard imaging tests but use a radioactive substance, or tracer, and a scanner to look for areas where the tracer collects, indicating the presence of cancer cells
• Heart tests, which allow cardiologists to assess the heart before cancer treatment to check for and prevent heart problems and tailor treatment accordingly, as well as after treatment to check for possible damage caused by the treatment
• Laboratory tests, which allow cancer specialists to collect samples of your blood or tissue to look for cancer cells, as well as substances that are produced by cancer, such as proteins
• Diagnostic procedures, which allow cancer specialists to access and closely visualize the inside the body and remove tissue for testing, treatment and prevention

Cancer Treatments

If you or a loved one have cancer, you have a lot to consider and may have a number of options to weigh. Our cancer specialists deliver a full range of cancer treatments and will help you choose the right one for you. Your doctor may recommend one treatment or a combination of treatments.

We offer:

• Surgery to remove cancerous tumors
• Radiation therapy to destroy cancer cells and shrink tumors using high doses of energy
• Chemotherapy to destroy cancer cells using drugs
• Immunotherapy, or biologic therapy, to stop or slow the growth or spread of cancer using your body’s immune system
• Targeted therapy to destroy cancer by targeting certain parts of cancer cells, such as genes and proteins, that help the cells grow, divide and spread
• Hormone therapy to slow or stop the growth of breast and prostate cancers that are fed from hormones

Physical supportive care

It’s common for necessary cancer treatments to cause unpleasant side effects. We provide services that help you manage these side effects and support your body in its fight against cancer. We offer:

• Nutrition counseling to help you maintain a balanced diet that gives your body the nourishment it needs from diagnosis through treatment and beyond and prevent recurrence
• Gentle yoga to help you manage cancer symptoms and the side effects of cancer treatments through mind-body exercise, which enhances physical, mental and emotional wellness
• Cancer exercise rehab program to improve balance, endurance, flexibility and strength while managing fatigue and depression and enhancing quality of life
• Massage therapy to relieve side effects of cancer treatment, such as anxiety, fatigue and pain
• Acupuncture or acupressure to relieve side effects of cancer treatment, including nausea and vomiting
• Lymphedema support to prevent or control swelling caused by a blockage of fluid in the lymphatic system, which can result from lymph node removal or cancer treatment

Emotional and spiritual supportive care

Cancer and treatment affect individuals in more ways than just physically but also mentally, emotionally and spiritually. We pride ourselves in our commitment to providing care options that meet your whole body’s needs. We offer:

• Survivorship support to bridge the gap from receiving cancer care to ongoing primary care through short- and long-term needs assessment, information and resources, and a variety of complimentary alternative medicine options
• Social work to assist with financial concerns, transportation resources and housing resources through hotel discounts
• Chaplain services to offer spiritual support for you and your loved ones before, during and after diagnosis and treatment
• CancerCancer Cottage to provide housing needs, if you live out of town, while you receive treatment at our CancerCare Center
• Look Good Feel Better program to help women who are undergoing cancer treatment manage the side effects that may affect their appearance by teaching them beauty techniques

Meet Our Cancer Specialists

Our expert cancer specialists are dedicated to your unique needs and providing you with lifechanging care. Our team includes radiation oncologists, who treat cancer using radiation therapy, and medical oncologists, who treat cancer using medications. These medications include chemotherapy, immunotherapy, targeted therapy, hormone therapy and stem cell transplant.

Our team also includes nurse practitioners, nurse navigators, oncology nurses and social workers.

Nurse practitioners

Our nurse practitioners work closely with our radiation and medical oncologists to increase access to cancer care. After earning their registered nursing degree, they earned master’s or doctoral degrees in clinical care.

Nurse navigators

Our nurse navigators guide you through tests and treatments to ensure that you receive the care you need when you need it. Our nurse navigators are registered nurses who specialize in cancer care, so they are well versed in all of its nuances. They will work with you to:

• Understand your needs and wishes
• Help you understand your options and personalized care plan
• Guide you through diagnostic testing and treatments
• Direct you to resources that may help you

Oncology nurses

All of our nurses have earned Oncology Nursing Certification through the Oncology Nursing Society. They have also passed a Chemotherapy and Biotherapy Course, showing their dedication to delivering safe, effective cancer treatment.

Social workers

Our social workers help you deal with any needs or concerns you may experience during your cancer care. They also help with coordinating referrals to supportive care services.
