A member of our surgical team, Eugene Lee, MD, PhD, FACS, RPVI, specializes in General Surgery and Vascular Surgery. Originally from California, he attended Cornell University in New York where he earned his bachelor’s degree in chemistry. He obtained his medical degree from Tufts University in Boston. Ten years of residency and fellowship followed, where he spent eight years completing a General Surgery Residency at the University of Minnesota in Minneapolis where Dr. Lee earned several teaching, research and clinical excellence awards. During that time, Dr. Lee also earned a PhD in Experimental Surgery. He then went on to complete a Vascular Surgery Fellowship at Stanford University in 2004. Dr. Lee maintains dual board certification in both General Surgery and Vascular Surgery as well as further certification in vascular ultrasound interpretation (RPVI). With 20 years of surgical experience as an Associate Professor of Surgery at the University of California, Davis in Sacramento and Chief of Vascular Surgery at the Sacramento VA Medical Center, Dr. Lee has extensive clinical experience treating patients with aneurysm, carotid artery disease, renal failure and lower extremity ischemia. Dr. Lee has authored 59 peer-reviewed scientific publications and five book chapters. He also garnered nearly $1.5 million in grant funding, all related to patients suffering from vascular problems. Dr. Lee is married to another physician and together they have two adult daughters. Dr. Lee is excited to serve Minot and the Northwest Region of North Dakota, as both a General and Vascular Surgeon.

Joel Pessa, MD, FACS
Trinity Health is pleased to welcome plastic, reconstructive and hand surgeon Joel Pessa, MD, FACS, to our surgical team. Dr. Pessa is board certified in plastic and reconstructive surgery and fellowship trained in hand surgery. He welcomes the opportunity to restore function and appearance to patients with conditions related to trauma or illness.
A graduate of the University of Massachusetts Medical College, Dr. Pessa remained at UMass for his general surgery residency and went on to complete his fellowship in plastic and reconstructive surgery at Duke University. Later, he accomplished his hand fellowship at the prestigious Christine M. Kleinert Institute for Hand and Microsurgery.
During his 30-plus years of practice, Dr. Pessa has served academic appointments at several teaching hospitals, including the University of Texas Southwestern Medical Center. He’s been a leader in advancing research to enhance the safety of patients undergoing plastic surgery procedures. He is a Diplomate of the American Board of Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery and a Fellow of the American College of Surgeons.
Kylie Mindt, FNP-C
Kylie Mindt, FNP-C, is a nurse practitioner specializing in Orthopedics. She works with physicians and other members of the orthopedic team to provide comprehensive care to patients with orthopedic problems such as hip, knee and shoulder issues as well as sports medicine injuries. The Velva, ND, native earned her Bachelor of Science in Nursing from Minot State University and completed her Master of Science in Family Nurse Practice through the University of Cincinnati. Prior to becoming a nurse practitioner, Kylie served as an RN with Trinity Health, working in both hospital and orthopedic clinic settings. She’s a member of the Omicron Tau Chapter of Sigma, an honor nursing society, and the American Association of Nurse Practitioners (AANP).
Joseph Elliott, MD
Trinity Health is pleased to welcome Joseph Elliott, MD, to our cardiovascular team. Dr. Elliott is an interventional cardiologist, specially trained to perform advanced cardiac procedures in Trinity’s new state-of-the-art cath lab. Areas of expertise include coronary angioplasty and stent placement, diagnostic angiograms, peripheral vascular disease (PVD), valvular heart disease and heart failure. He’s dedicated to providing patient-centered, evidence-based care responsive to patient needs. Dr. Elliot earned his medical doctorate from Ross University School of Medicine and completed his Internal Medicine residency at Canton Medical Education and Aultman Hospital in Ohio. He remained at Canton to accomplish fellowships in cardiovascular diseases and interventional cardiology. A member of the American College of Cardiology, American Society of Echocardiography and American College of Physicians, Dr. Elliott is board certified in Internal Medicine.
Shakeel Tabish, MD
Trinity Health is pleased to welcome Shakeel Tabish, MD, to our Neurology team. Dr. Tabish is board certified in Neurological Medicine and fellowship trained in Sleep Medicine. He is uniquely qualified to help patients manage the full range of conditions affecting the nervous system, such as stroke, epilepsy, multiple sclerosis, neuropathy, migraine, Parkinson’s, Alzheimer’s and sleep disorders such as sleep apnea, narcolepsy, restless leg syndrome and insomnia. A graduate of King Edward Medical University in Pakistan, he completed his residency training in Internal Medicine and Neurological Medicine at Cleveland Clinic in Florida. His sleep fellowship was accomplished at the University of North Carolina, Chapel Hill. Dr. Tabish has been an active volunteer in efforts to support people with health issues including mental health. His professional associations include the American Academy of Neurology, the American Academy of Sleep Medicine and American Medical Association. He enjoys outdoor activities such as hiking, kayaking and camping as well as tennis, cooking and music.
Kirsten Helseth, FNP-C
A member of our General Surgery team, Kirsten Helseth, FNP-C, is a board-certified nurse practitioner, dedicated to working with surgeons and other members of the care team to provide optimum care to surgical patients. A Sherwood native and longtime Minot resident, Kirsten received her Bachelor of Science in Nursing from Minot State University and her Master of Science in Family Nurse Practice from the University of Cincinnati. Her RN experience includes seven years working as a nurse in Trinity Health’s OR. During the pandemic, when surgical volumes declined, she provided care to COVID-19 patients. A member of the national organization American Association of Nurse Practitioners, Kirsten’s leisure time interests include boating, fishing, camping and downhill skiing, and spending time with her family, friends and two energetic dogs.

Preparing for Your Clinic Visit
We want to ensure your visit to our new Medical Office Building is a smooth and positive experience. Here are a few tips to help you prepare:
- Utilize the CONFIRM option on your text/email reminder so we know to expect you. Please let us know at least 24 hours in advance if you need to reschedule.
- To be mindful of everyone’s time and experience, it’s critical that you arrive at least 20 minutes prior to your scheduled appointment time. Give yourself ample time to find your way to and through our campus. Late arrival to your doctor’s office may result in a rescheduled appointment time.
- When you arrive for your appointment, enter the Medical Office Building and proceed to Central Registration on the 1st floor.
- Be sure to have your ID, insurance card and co-pay ready. You will be asked for these things every visit.
- Once you are registered, we will direct you to your appointment. When you arrive at your provider’s office, check in with the front desk staff and provide your name and date of birth.

Dustin Evans, MD
A member of our General Surgery team, Dustin Evans, MD, provides safe and effective surgical care to patients, with advanced treatment options and minimally invasive techniques for a wide range of surgical procedures. He is originally from Colorado and grew up on a dairy farm in Northeast Colorado. He earned his Doctor of Medicine degree from the University of Colorado School of Medicine. He remained at UC for his general surgery internship, and completed his general surgery residency training at the University of North Dakota School of Medicine and Health Sciences. Dr. Evans’ experience is broad and includes things from working at a gold mine to volunteering as an EMT with Highland Rescue Team Ambulance Service in Golden, CO. In his spare time, he enjoys shooting sports, 4-wheeling, and spending time with his wife and four children.
Brent Knudson, DO
Dr. Knudson is an orthopedic surgeon who brings advanced expertise to the care of people with bone, joint, and muscle disorders. His areas of focus include joint replacement surgery of the knee, hip, and shoulder. He is also passionate about sports and taking care of sport-related injuries, as well as routine fracture care.
Originally from Mandan, he earned a bachelor’s degree in Biochemistry/Nutrition from the University of Minnesota, Twin Cities, and received his medical degree at Kansas City University of Medicine and Biosciences. His residency training was completed through Michigan State University at McLaren Oakland, known for its advanced orthopedic program. During his residency, Dr. Knudson trained in all aspects of orthopedic surgery, with special emphasis on joint replacement, direct anterior hip replacement, sports medicine and trauma care.
His experience also includes five years as a flight surgeon with the US Air Force and Air Force National Guard, two and a half years of which were spent with the 5th Medical Group at Minot AFB. The remaining time was spent in Japan, Afghanistan, and Michigan.
Dr. Knudson and his wife, Kelly, have three children. Whether fishing or hunting, they enjoy spending their free time in the beautiful North Dakota outdoors.
Alicia Crosby, FNP-C
A member of our General Surgery team, Alicia Crosby, FNP-C, is a board-certified nurse practitioner trained to provide a wide range of services to patients undergoing surgical procedures, including patient assessment, follow-up care, and education to surgical patients. A Minot native, Alicia received her Bachelor of Science in Nursing from Minot State University and her Master of Science in Family Nurse Practitioner training from the University of North Dakota, Grand Forks. Her RN experience includes over five years of experience as a critical care nurse in Trinity Hospital’s Intensive Care Unit. She is a member of the American Association of Nurse Practitioners.
