Kenmare Community Hospital is restricting access to its facility as a precautionary step against the COVID-19 virus.
Administrator Danielle Alsadon says all doors including the hospital’s main entrance will be locked for the near future. Persons who need access to make deliveries or for other purposes are asked to call the hospital’s main phone number – 385-4296 – and undergo a screening process.
In addition, anyone who believes they may have COVID-19 symptoms, such as fever or cough, should call the 385-4296 number for guidance. If it’s determined they need to be seen at the clinic or Emergency Department, they should remain in their vehicle and call the phone number again. Hospital personnel will come and tend to them, employing precautions as necessary before they enter the building.
“We feel these measures are necessary out of an abundance of caution,” Alsadon said. “Our ER is in the same facility as our swing bed service, where elderly residents are being cared for. For the protection of these residents and our staff, we want to minimize the risk that someone who might otherwise appear healthy will result in others being exposed.”
Alsadon said the restrictions will be in effect until further notice, and any modifications will be publicized.
