(MINOT, ND) – The Trinity Health Center for Diabetes Education will host a free program, ‘Risks and Management of Hypertension with Diabetes,’ Tuesday, March 6, at 5:30 p.m. in the Trinity Health Community Conference Room located at Town & Country Center, 1015 South Broadway.
Hypertension, or high blood pressure, is a common condition among people with diabetes, affecting around 70 percent of those with Type 2 diabetes, according to the National Institutes of Health. If left uncontrolled hypertension can lead to various forms of cardiovascular disease, including heart attack, stroke, and peripheral artery disease.
Dr. Kwanza Devlin, a family medicine specialist, will discuss the risks associated with hypertension and review guidelines on its assessment and treatment. Clinical dietitian Michelle Fundingsland, RDN, LRD, and diabetes educator Ilene Olson, RN, will offer strategies for managing high blood pressure through weight control, nutrition and increased physical activity.
The program is part of the center’s ongoing educational series, Keys to Diabetes Success. Reservations aren’t required but recommended by calling the Center for Diabetes Education at 857-5268.
