Trinity Health is offering a series of food events in 2019 to make the coming year a little more healthful.
The series, led by Trinity Health registered dietitian nutritionists, features cooking classes and grocery store tours designed to make mealtime both tasty and healthful and to help individuals and families focus on specific health issues such as diabetes or heart health.
Kayla Cole, RDN, LRD, says the series begins January 8 with a cooking class, “Healthy Swaps,” from 2 to 3 p.m. in the Trinity Health Community Conference Room at Town & Country Center in Minot.
“Healthy Swaps is all about making a few simple adjustments in our food preparation to transform a not-so-healthy recipe into one that is much better for you,” Cole said. “Just by substituting ‘this for that’ you can make your cooking healthier while still eating the foods you love.”
Cooking classes are held in the Trinity Health Community Conference Room at Town & Country Center and require a $10 fee to cover recipes and food samples. Grocery tours are free and are held at Minot’s original MarketPlace Foods, 1930 South Broadway. Space is limited for both types of events. People are asked to RSVP by calling 857-5268.
Other cooking class topics and dates in 2019 are: April 9 – Cooking with Greek Yogurt; September 10 – Cooking with Spices; and December 10 – Healthy Holiday Bites.
Grocery store tour topics and dates are: February 12 – Heart Health; March 12 – Diabetes; May 14 – Celiac Disease/Gluten Intolerance; October 8 – How to Read a Food Label; and November 12 – Diabetes.
