Manikins for Cardiac Ready Community
Thanks to the gifts we receive from donors, Trinity Health Foundation funds initiatives to improve health and wellness in the region we serve. One of the projects funded through Trinity Health Foundation will assist the city of Minot in becoming a Cardiac Ready Community.
The first five minutes count. When a person experiences a sudden cardiac event, odds are measured in time. Survival rates can vary widely, from 0%-50%, depending who happens to be there and how, or if, they are equipped to help. The national survival rate from a bystander-witnessed, out-of-hospital cardiac arrest with a shockable rhythm is only 28.4%. This rate increases significantly if those bystanders are trained how to respond.
Let’s be ready. Heart disease is the leading cause of death in North Dakota. Minot is pursuing a Cardiac Ready Community designation, which prepares community members to aid anyone experiencing a heart-related emergency. Research shows that communities increase survival and recovery rates for victims of heart attack, stroke, or sudden cardiac arrest when residents:
• are aware of cardiac emergency signs and symptoms
• activate the 9-1-1 system for these emergencies
• begin cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR)
• have public access to Automated External Defibrillators (AEDs)
Manikins, funded by the Trinity Health Foundation, will be used to teach residents hands-only CPR.
Stop the Bleed Kits
Stop the Bleed Kits will be distributed to all students who enroll in the Stop the Bleed Course. The goal of the program is to ensure that the community has the education and supplies to stop life-threatening hemorrhage from natural or man-made disasters. Through this training the entire community benefits as safety is enhanced when members of the public can identify uncontrolled bleeding and have the knowledge and supplies to stop it.
Dream Catchers
Dream Catchers Baseball is a baseball league specifically designed for children who would be unable to participate in the summer recreational program due to safety concerns or a child’s physical needs such as braces, walkers or wheelchairs.
The focus of the league is to assist all players in their development of social skills, physical activity, and self-confidence. The Dream Catchers believe that everyone deserves a chance to enjoy baseball, the great American pastime, and be as independent as possible.
Trinity Health Foundation provided funding for Dream Catchers to place wind screens and sun covers over the bleachers. This will give the players and their families protection while they are watching and participating in the games.
