Admission enrollment is limited and competitive based upon accreditation standards and guidelines as well as the available resources of the sponsoring institutions. A maximum of four are accepted on a competitive basis each year to the Sonography Program. The student positions are located at the Trinity Health medical campus in Minot, North Dakota.
Students pursuing the Associate of Applied Science (AAS) in Diagnostic Medical Sonography (DMS) degree with Dakota College at Bottineau (DCB) should complete the DCB application for admission. Students are jointly admitted to DCB and Trinity Health Diagnostic Medical Sonography program. The AAS in DMS degree requires the satisfactory completion of 91 credit hours that includes 32 credit hours of general education, 50 credit hours of core course requirements, and nine credit hours of clinical training.
Full-time students who follow the recommended curriculum course sequence can complete their associate degree and the sonography program in approximately 28 months. Full-time students who follow the recommended curriculum course sequence can complete their bachelor degree and the sonography program in approximately four years. Students pursuing academic degrees should refer to the respective degree granting institutions for academic advisement on completing their requirements.
Applicants are most competitive if they have:
• A GPA of at least 3.0 on a 4.0 scale
• An ACT composite score of 20 or higher
• Previous patient care experience
• Observed sonographic procedures
• Prerequisite coursework that is less than seven years old
• A bachelor's degree or are enrolled in an affiliated university
• No more than two courses in progress at the time of interviews

1. Online Application
Complete the online application for admission. After accessing the application form, complete each section. Application window opens December 1 and closes March 31 for August program start date. entry. Applications received after the deadline will be considered on a space available basis. The online application is located on the right hand side of this page.
2. Degree
In the Education Information section of the application, declare a degree plan under diploma/degree/major courses column. Degree plans will be verified with proof of unconditional admission and in a position of good standing with an affiliated college or university via official transcripts. Applicants holding a degree will apply as a certificate recipient.
3. Personal References
Access the Diagnostic Medical Sonography Personal Reference Form on the right side of this page, print a copy, complete the applicant section, sign and date it, then email, fax, or mail. The program director will then send reference forms to the applicant’s three selected individuals.
4. Technical Standards
Student must meet the required essential functions and the technical standards as documented on the Diagnostic Medical Sonography Technical Standards form found on the right side of this page. Print a copy, review the technical standard expectations, complete the applicant section with your name, signature and date, then email, fax, or mail.
5. Observation Job Shadow
Documented evidence of a minimum of four hours of observation in an ultrasound department with a registered sonographer recorded on program clinical observation documentation form is required. Contact the Program Director if needing assistance in scheduling a sonographer observation experience at Trinity Health in Minot. 6. CPR
Proof of active/current AHA approved CPR certification for Healthcare Providers (or BLS).
7. Supporting Documentation
Submit official transcripts of all high school, college, and university credits. Transcripts must include the embossed school seal and should be sent in the original unopened envelopes to the program director. If ACT scores are not available on transcripts, include an official ACT report.
8. GPA
A GPA of 2.75 or greater on a 4.0 scale with a grade of “C” or better on all general prerequisites. A program selection academic scoring will be completed on grades received on anatomy and physiology, algebra, physics, medical terminology, English and communication, healthcare law and ethics, humanities, and introduction to computer science courses. Prerequisites must have been completed within seven years of the date of expected entry into the DMS program.
