Trinity Health Diabetes Education and Nutrition Services will host a class on square foot gardening Thursday, May 16, from 12:30 to 1:30 p.m. in the Trinity Health Community Conference Room at Town & Country Center. The class is co-sponsored by Trinity Health and Minot Area Team Wellness.
North Dakota State University Extension Agent Paige Brummund will show how to create and care for a square foot garden. Michelle Fundingsland, RDN, LRD, will discuss the proper care of fresh vegetables and talk about their nutritional value.
“Square foot gardens let you enjoy fresh vegetables right from your own backyard, with less space, less work and more produce than a traditional row garden,” Fundingsland said. “They’re perfect gardens for those who live in town and have a small yard or for those who don’t have the time to plant a big row garden.”
A square foot gardening is a space-efficient way to grow vegetables and other plants within a limited area. Square foot gardening is exactly what the name says: dividing a growing area into 1-foot x 1-foot sections. What you grow in each section depends on the mature size of the crop.
The class is free, but space is limited. Registration is required by calling 857-5268.
