(MINOT, ND) – Trinity Health continues to move forward with plans to build a new hospital and medical campus in southwest Minot.

Yates-Northwest Contracting, a joint venture, has been selected to manage the project’s next step ñ evaluating and refining materials and cost estimates to bring them in line with the project’s targeted budget.

Trinity Health Facilities Vice President Dave Kohlman says Yates is one of the top construction providers in the nation and has already engaged with architects and planners to present construction estimates that will be used to engage the construction team.

‘It’s been a smooth transition,’ Kohlman says. ‘The design of the hospital and medical office building continues to be refined to accommodate the services that will be housed on the campus within the project’s scope. We anticipate more tweaks as we adapt to changes in the costs of labor and materials, and find ways to improve the flow of patients and care throughout the system.’

He said one design change put forward by TEG Architects, the project’s designers, is to possibly re-position the medical office building in relation to the hospital to significantly reduce the amount of concrete needed. ‘The MOB was slated to be positioned alongside the hospital, running parallel, which resulted in a more expensive design. Instead, our design places the MOB perpendicular with the hospital, saving millions of dollars in costs while gaining more natural light into the adjacent hospital facility.’

In the meantime, work has been steady on the project throughout the winter months, and site preparations will continue, with an official groundbreaking planned for this summer. Other project milestones, such as financing and approval by the North Dakota Department of Health, are also proceeding on schedule.

Trinity Health President and CEO, John M. Kutch, said the goal is to ensure future generations have convenient access to the highest quality of care close to home. ‘The excitement for this project continues to grow within our organization and throughout our entire service area, as we all recognize its significance for our patients, families, employees and communities,’ he said.

Plans call for a $275 million facility with a construction site covering 76 acres and featuring ample parking for patients, visitors and staff. The project is expected to be completed in early 2020.
