(MINOT, ND) – The rise of opiate addiction and other forms of drug abuse will be among the key topics at Trinity Health’s 36th Annual Symposium on Perinatal Medicine and Women’s Healthcare Thursday and Friday (Sept. 22-23) at the Grand Hotel.
Caregivers from across the region are expected to attend the two-day conference, which features national and regional experts discussing a variety of topics related to the care of women and newborns.
William Malcolm, MD, Associate Professor of Pediatrics at Duke University, Durham, NC, will discuss neonatal abstinence syndrome, a group of problems that occur in newborns who are exposed to addictive illegal or prescription drugs while in the womb.
Several sessions will focus on complicated grief, a disorder in which an individual experiences prolonged grief symptoms for an extended period of time. Other topics include obstetric emergencies, neonatal nutrition and development, losing weight after pregnancy, newborn screening, and diabetes in pregnancy.
