(MINOT, ND) – Family gatherings during the holidays are some of the season’s most enjoyable moments. But with hearing loss, it’s easy to feel left out of the festivities.

Audiologists at Trinity Health say people with hearing problems can enjoy better hearing in time for the holiday season by exploring their hearing aid options now.

Audiologist Tricia Nechodom, AuD, says new ‘smart’ hearing aids are available that provide both hearing improvement and the ability to connect with electronic devices. ‘They’re the next step in hearing technology,’ said Nechodom. ‘Not only do they let you experience more natural, truer-to-life sound, they’re designed to connect wirelessly to smartphones, tablets and other devices to give you the ability to hear phone calls, TV audio or even music directly in your ears.’

Approximately 15% of American adults (37.5 million) aged 18 and over report some trouble hearing, according to the National Institute on Deafness and Other Communication Disorders. Yet fewer than 30 percent of seek treatment. Among the signs of hearing loss are:

• Turning up the TV volume to higher and higher settings.
• Asking others to repeat themselves over and over.
• Everyday sounds slowly vanishing over the years.
• Friends and family complaining that you do not understand them.

Nechodom says that as an incentive prior to the holidays, Trinity Health is offering a discount of $200 off the price of hearing aid technology throughout the month of November.
