Visitors to this year’s KMOT Ag Expo will have access to low-cost health screenings, along with important information that could save a life. Trinity Health will use its exhibit space to promote STOP THE BLEED®, a program that teaches the basics of how to stop life-threatening bleeding.

“The Ag Expo is the ideal place for STOP THE BLEED teaching,” said Amber Emerson, RN, an injury prevention specialist with Trinity Health. “The farming and ranching way of life poses numerous risks. Knowing how to stop life threatening bleeding, as well as having a STOP THE BLEED kit available could save a life, especially considering rural first response times can be upwards of an hour.”

According to the Occupational Safety and Health Administration, agricultural workers have a fatality rate of almost seven times the rate of all workers.  Moreover, rural residents are often further away from EMS responders. “Prevention is key,” Emerson added. “Shutting off equipment to work on it and taking the extra minute for safety is extremely important.”

In addition to STOP THE BLEED, clinicians from Trinity Health will be available each day of the show to provide blood glucose and cholesterol screenings at a combined cost of $15.  Free blood pressure checks will also be available. The screenings will be available from 9 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Wednesday and Thursday, and from 9 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. on Friday in the Case IH Northern Plains Equipment Hall.

The KMOT Ag Expo is scheduled January 24-26 at the North Dakota State Fair Center.
