With the competition for healthcare workers at an all-time high, the Trinity Health Sleep Center is offering free training and job opportunities to anyone interested in becoming a sleep technologist.
Sleep technologists are healthcare specialists who work in a sleep facility to provide comprehensive evaluation of patients undergoing assessment for a sleep disorder such as sleep apnea or narcolepsy.
Under Trinity’s program, participants will have the opportunity to become a sleep technology trainee and, after successfully completing the training program, begin a career as a sleep technologist working under the supervision of a medical director at a salary range of $27 to $38 per hour.
Jutta Schmidt, RRT, RPSGT, manager of Trinity’s Sleep Center, says the hope is that laypersons or healthcare workers in other fields will take advantage of the opportunity to learn new skills.
“We’re excited about this program,” Schmidt said. “At our expense, participants will be able to attend a two-week immersion course that develops their knowledge base about sleep medicine and teaches the professional skills required of a sleep technologist.”
According to Schmidt, the training program involves a mix of online and hands-on instruction and adheres to standards set by the American Academy of Sleep Medicine. Participants who complete the program will take a national board exam to become a Registered Polysomnography Technologist.
Persons interested in registering for the training program may contact Trinity’s Human Resources Department at 701-418-8050 or [email protected].
