Family-centered care at Trinity Health begins long before baby’s arrival. To help expecting parents address fears and concerns about pregnancy, labor, delivery, and the postpartum period, our experienced nursing team teaches essential skills through a variety of free prenatal and newborn classes.
Why Take Prenatal and Newborn Classes at Trinity?
At Trinity Health, we understand the mix of emotions felt by pregnant patients and their support persons. To help reduce anxiety and increase confidence in caring for a new baby, we offer a variety of free educational classes. Nurses with specialized training and decades of experience teach parents-to-be about the process of birth and what to expect during their transition to parenthood. Learning objectives and details for each class appear below.
Registration for any of the classes can be completed online here. If you have questions regarding the class, please call 701-418-8806.
Prepared Childbirth
This class covers topics related to pregnancy, labor, delivery, and after delivery (postpartum) such as:
- Signs of labor
- What to expect in labor
- Comfort measures
- Options for pain relief
- Early postpartum care
The goal is to provide knowledge, skills, and some coping mechanisms that will lower anxiety and increase your confidence in the pregnancy journey.
Nurses experienced in the care of pregnant and laboring families teach the class and use videos, demonstrations, and hands-on learning in addition to lecture. The casual environment encourages questions and conversations among the participants.
Class is held one Saturday a month from 9:00 A.M. to 4:00 P.M. with an hour break for lunch. Specific dates for the class can be found here. All expecting families are welcome to attend. We recommend the class be taken in the last 8 weeks of pregnancy.
Breastfeeding Basics
Education is known to increase the success and duration of the breastfeeding experience. If you plan to breastfeed or want more information before deciding on how to feed your baby, attend this class. Topics include feeding positions, proper latch, skin-to-skin contact, signs baby is getting enough to eat, and more!
Our lactation experts are passionate about breastfeeding and hope to educate, encourage, and support women so they feel confident and comfortable in their breastfeeding journey.
It’s best to take this class before delivery; however, women who recently delivered can also attend. Classes are held in the evening from 6:00 – 8:00 p.m.
Newborn Care
Trinity Health experts will explain the basics of newborn care such as feeding, bathing, diapering, soothing, and sleeping. They can answer your questions and talk you through any “what if” scenarios.
Expectant parents, support persons, and those with a newborn may attend this class.
*Infant CPR not included*
