Trinity Health will observe Patient Safety Awareness Week with a Patient Safety Fair March 10-12 in the Trinity Hospital Skyway.

Patient Safety Awareness Week is an annual recognition event that encourages healthcare staff and the public to learn more about healthcare safety and the Joint Commission’s National Patient Safety Goals.

Amy Swearson, RN, Standards Coordinator in Clinical Excellence & Patient Safety, says the three-day fair will feature informational booths that highlight how Trinity Health incorporates the patient safety goals into its practices. One particular goal is pertinent to today’s news headlines – reducing the risk of infections with a multi-strategy approach that includes hand hygiene.

“Hand hygiene is one of the most important patient safety issues today and the single most important factor in preventing the spread of pathogens and healthcare-associated infections,” Swearson said. “I hope everyone will check us out and have some fun. It’s important to know these safety precautions, whether it be staff, patients, or visitors.  We all have to be advocates for our community as well as ourselves.”

The fair will be available in the skyway during the following times: March 10 & 11 from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m., and March 12 from 7 a.m. to 12 p.m.
