Patient Health Decisions

Every competent adult has the right to accept or reject medical/surgical treatment and to make other decisions regarding his or her medical care.  Living Wills and Durable Power of Attorney for Healthcare are two forms of advanced medical directives that are available under North Dakota state law.  An advance medical directive ensures your right to make decisions about your medical care in the event you become unable to do so yourself.

Living Will

A Living Will is a document executed by you that allows you to indicate whether you want life prolonging treatment, nutrition and/or hydration in the event you have a terminal condition and are unable to make decisions for yourself.

Durable Power of Attorney

Durable Power of Attorney for Healthcare is a legal document that allows you to appoint someone to make healthcare decision for you in the event that you are unable to make them for yourself.
