Cardiac Rehabilitation is a program of supervised exercise and lifestyle management to help patients recover from a heart event or heart surgery, and prevent future cardiac problems.
Who BenefitsMost heart patients have something to gain by participating in a cardiac rehab program, whether it be to increase current level of strength and stamina, develop a healthier lifestyle, or receive social and emotional support. Individuals most likely to benefit from cardiac rehabilitation are those with the following conditions:
- Stable Angina (chest pain)
- Heart attack
- Heart Surgery (Bypass or Valve)
- Coronary Angioplasty
- Coronary stents
Cardiac Rehab Program Components:
Exercise is the key element of Trinity’s cardiac rehab program. All patients are provided with an individualized exercise prescription, which may include walking, stationary cycling, rowing, and moderate resistance training. While exercising, patients are under the care of experienced cardiac rehab nurses , exercise physiologists, and respiratory therapists who monitor blood pressure, heart rate and rhythm to ensure patients are exercising safely. Your exercise program will be specially designed for you so that you may proceed at a safe and comfortable pace.
Heart Health Benefits of Exercise
Cardiac rehab staff design an individual lifestyle modification program to help each patient achieve and maintain a healthier lifestyle. Dietitians, pharmacists, and licensed mental health counselors are available for consultaion.
Completion of the initial outpatient phase of cardiac rehabilitation will improve your cardiovascular health, but results may be temporary unless you exercise regularly to maintain your conditioning and strength. As part of your long-term plan you may continue to exercise at Trinity’s cardiac rehab maintenance program, located in the same area as the initial outpatient program. Participants may continue to attend indefinitely as long as space is available, for a small out of pocket fee. Participants will continue to have access to cardiac rehab staff for guidance and support.
How Do I enroll In Cardiac Rehab?
A physician referral is needed to get started in Trinity’s cardiac rehab program. Referral usually follows heart surgery, a heart attack or other cardiac illness listed above. If you wish to learn more about enrollment, call 701-857-2338 and any of the cardiac rehab staff can address your questions or concerns.
