Anatomy of the Eye

Vitreous Gel(body): The clear gel that fills the space between the lens and the retina of the eyeball.
Choroid The vascular layer of the eye, containing connective tissue, and lying between the retina and the sclera.
Optic Nerve A paired nerve that transmits visual information from the retina to the brain,
Macula An oval area surrounding the fovea near the center of the retina in the eye. This region consists of the keenest vision.
Fovea A small depression in the retina of the eye where visual acuity is highest.
Retina The retina is the third and inner coat of the eye which is a light-sensitive layer of tissue.
Superior Rectus Muscle One of the extraocular muscles. It is innervated by the superior division of the oculomotor nerve.
Iris A thin, circular structure in the eye, responsible for controlling the diameter and size of the pupil and thus the amount of light reaching the retina.
Anterior Chamber The fluid-filled space inside the eye between the iris and the cornea's innermost surface.
Cornea The transparent front part of the eye that covers the iris, pupil, and anterior chamber.
Pupil A hole located in the center of the iris of the eye that allows light to strike the retina.
Lens A clear convex disc that light passes through to focus on the retina in the back of the eye.
Ciliary Body and Muscle A smooth muscle of the ciliary body of the eye, consisting of circular fibers and radiating fibers, and whose action changes the shape of lens.
Inferior Rectus Muscle One of the 6 extraocular muscles that control eye movements.
