Children’s Bone and Joint DisordersMuscle and joint conditions of infancy can include hip dislocation or dysplasia, congenital club foot, intoeing, cerebral palsy or various other congenital abnormalities affecting a child’s musculoskeletal system. As with all medical conditions, early diagnosis and treatment are essential.
Children can also suffer trauma and fractures. After all… kids will be kids. Childhood infections can also rapidly spread to bone and/or joints and produce a confusing array of symptoms including, fever, nausea, vomiting, inability to move a joint, stand, or walk. Early suspicion and diagnosis is most important.
The teenage years can also bring a varying array of bone and joint conditions such as strained muscles, sprained ligaments, or fractures; and in addition to injuries or diseases affecting the growth area of bones such as slipped epiphysis, Osgood- Schlatters disease of the knees, Perthese disease of the hips or osteochondritis dissecans which is a loss of blood supply to specific growth areas of any joint.
