Skill Assessments

Trinity Health provides gold standard testing with a multidisciplinary team, including Shana Guilbert, Psy.D., Kelsey Schiele MS, SLP and Krystal Butgereit, MOT, OTR/L. Testing includes Autism Diagnostic Interview, Autism Diagnostic Observation Schedule, cognitive and adaptive skill assessments, speech and language skills, and developmental and sensory processing skill assessments.

The following are "red flags" that may indicate your child is at risk for having Autism. If your child exhibits any of the following symptoms, please don’t delay in pursuing an evaluation.
  • No big smiles or other warm, joyful expressions by six months or thereafter
  • No back-and-forth sharing of sounds, smiles or other facial expressions by nine months
  • No babbling by 12 months
  • No back-and-forth gestures such as pointing, showing, reaching or waving by 12 months
  • No words by 16 months
  • No meaningful, two-word phrases (not including imitating or repeating) by 24 months
  • Any loss of speech, babbling or social skills at any age


Your Child’s Autism Evaluation

Thank you for selecting Trinity Health to help you meet the needs of your child. We appreciate your having selected us to assist you with this important process.

Your child’s Autism Evaluation will take place over two different appointments. The initial appointment will be for testing with Dr. Guilbert Psy.D., child psychologist, Krystal Butgereit MOT, OTR/L, occupational therapist, and Kelsey Schiele MS,CCC-SLP, speech and language pathologist. Insurance pre-authorization is the patient’s responsibility.

After your child’s testing results have been reviewed, you will meet with Dr. Guilbert to review the results and ask any questions. If your child is diagnosed with autism, we will provide you with information to assist you in learning about autism and to ensure you are on the right path to helping your child achieve their full potential.

All appointments will take place at Trinity Health-Riverside.

When you call to schedule an evaluation, the intake coordinator will gather information about our child over the phone. We will try to schedule you as quickly as possible, however note that there may be a waiting period ranging from several weeks to several months.

Shana D. Guilbert, Psy.D., is a licensed psychologist who specializes in Child and Adolescent Psychology. Dr. Guilbert is specially trained to provide psychological testing, therapy and treatment for children and adolescents. She has specialized training in evaluating and testing for Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) and other neurodevelopmental disorders. Testing and treatment is also provided for diagnoses such as ADHD, PT/SD, depression, bipolar disorder, and conduct based disorders.

Kelsey Schiele, MS, CCC-SLP, is a Minot native who received her Master's degree in Speech-Language Pathology from Minot State University in 2016. Following graduation, Kelsey joined Trinity Health in June of 2016. She is a member of the American Speech-Language-Hearing Association and the North Dakota Speech-Language-Hearing Association. Working with children is a passion for Kelsey, and her professional interests currently include language disorders, aural rehabilitation, and fluency disorders. She enjoys working closely with patients and families to best support their individual communication needs.

Krystal Butgereit, MOT, OTR/L has 11+ years of experience evaluating and providing intervention services for children with ASD. Krystal has been instrumental in the establishment of “Autism Swims”, a swimming lesson program provided specifically for children with Autism, through a partnership with the Minot Family YMCA. She has continued her education in the areas of sensory integration and Autism diagnostics/intervention and has experience with educating therapists, parents, caregivers, and other professionals regarding the various characteristics and treatment options related to ASD.
